FAQ

On health issues

Yatris aged above 70 years are given Kailash permit by the Chinese Embassy in 2020. Kindly contact us for further information on this.

Samrat Holidays has the record of taking the youngest yatri of age 6 (six) in May 2009 group. This young yatri had taken up Amarnath, Adi Kailash yatra and was fit. However, it is advisable to join this yatra if you are 18 years or above.

Physical fitness is an important criterion to undertake this yatra. Yatri should be aware that it is rigorous and challenging trip where we have to spend all the time at high altitudes.

⦁ Daily walks in open air for at least 4 kms will keep you fit relaxing your muscles. Wear the shoes which you will be using for the yatra when you go for regular walks. Walking should be practiced for a minimum of 3 months continuously before undertaking the yatra.

⦁ Short hiking undertaken regularly would also help. Use stairs at home and other places wherever possible.

⦁ Regular practice of pranayama helps.

⦁ Drink lots of water.

People having acute asthmatic problems, heart diseases, and those who are highly diabetic are advised to refrain from this yatra.

⦁ Maintain a good hemoglobin (Hb) level. Being anemic will make you prone to high altitude sickness easily.

⦁ While booking your Kailash Manasarovar yatra with us, we give you a Medical Fitness form, you will have to get it filled by your family doctor or any general physician and submit it to us.

We do not advice heart patients to join the yatra. Consult your cardiologist and if the doctor can certify you that you are physically fit to travel at high altitude of nearly 4500 m high after a thorough medical examination, we can take you to Manasarovar till Darchen, Kailash base camp to have Kailash Dharshan. We do not allow such yatris to do parikrama as it is very risky. Samrat team takes personal attention to all the individual yatris, we strongly recommend that any of your family member or guardian accompanies you and can give you personal attention during the yatra.

It is advisable to carry first-aid kit with you. Please consult your family doctor and carry general medicines for fever, headache, vomiting, diarrhea and sprays / ointments for sprain, pain etc. But consult your Tibetan / Nepali / Indian team leaders before you consume any of these medicines.

Do not carry sleeping pills with you or consume the same during the yatra under any situation.

No. Yatris are requested to obtain proper medical and travel insurance prior to the trip.

On Parikrama

Yatris will have to walk initially at the Nepal – Tibet border approximately 1 km to reach the Tibet side. After which you will have to walk only during the Kailash parikrama to cover 46 kms in a span of 2 ½ days.

On Day 1, from Yama Dwar till Darchen you will have to walk approximately 11 kms which takes a minimum of 5 to 6 hours for a yatri with normal physical fitness, who do not have any prior trekking experience. This is more a plain ground with little ups and downs. It is possible to have dharshan of Kailash in different angles. Photographs are permitted while doing parikrama.

On Day 2, from Dhirapuk to cross Dolma La Pass and reach Zuthulpuk, time taken by any yatri is 10 to 12 hours on an average to cross 22 kms approximately. Trek till Dolmala Pass is uphill and very strenuous. Once you descend from Dolmala Pass, it is a long walk to Zuthulpuk.

On Day 3, from Zuthulpuk it takes a minimum of 1 ½ hours to 2 hours to complete the parikrama and get into the bus, which will take you to the base camp Darchen.

If you cannot do the Kailash Parikrama by walk then you can hire a horse, horse man and a Tibetan helper by paying extra (approximately 2700 yuan per person). This rate may vary during travel time, hence not a fixed rate.

However, even if you hire a horse, you may have to walk nearly 1 km from the vehicle parking place till you reach the place where horses wait on Day 1.

And on Day 2, you will have to walk from Dhirapuk guest house nearly 2 kms where horses will wait to carry you. Upon reaching Dolma La Pass, you will be asked to climb down the horse and trek down to 4 kms approximately, to reach the tea-house which takes nearly 3 to 4 hours depending upon the yatri’s physical fitness.

And finally on Day 3, the last leg of 2 kms of the parikrama has to be completed on foot.

You can choose not to go for Parikrama at all.

You can drive till Tarpoche (Yama Dwar), have the South-west dharshan of Kailash along with other yatris going for the parikrama and drive back to Darchen and wait there.

Our staff will be there to arrange accommodation for your stay and prepare food for you on those days. Additional amount of 150 yuan approximately should be paid for the same.

It is possible for an additional expense to hire a land cruiser to take you till the border, cancel your visa, accommodate you in hotel or transfer you to Kathmandu / Nepalgunj.

This will cost you approximately 1000 yuan.

Inner Parikrama means parikrama of Nandi Parvat, inner Dhirapuk and East face dharshan

Inner Parikrama is very strenuous and tiring. You will be trekking up to a maximum of 22000 feet height. Hiring horses to do this parikrama is not possible. One needs to be a good trekker with experience in snow trekking, to do the Inner Parikrama.

Outer parikrama means parikrama of only the Holy Kailash.

The regular Overland and Helicopter is actually only outer Parikrama which is easy to complete. In outer parikrama, you will be trekking upto a maximum of 18500 feet high.

It is not advisable to try inner parikrama without trying outer parikrama at least once.
